Obsidian is said to have been first documented as early as 77 AD. It has been noted to have been used as weapons and tools as far back as 7000 years ago. It used to be polished and used as a mirror before the modern invention.
 
Crystalline structure:
Obsidian is volcanic glass that is formed by very quick cooling lava. It gains its silver sheen from gas bubbles aligning across the layers during formation.
