Aries Season, Spring Equinox, and Mercury Direct

Buckle up, Friday 20th March has a lot of changes happening. We will not only celebrate the Spring Equinox, but we will also start the new Zodiac year with the sun moving into Aries, and Mercury will come out of retrograde and go direct. So let's explore what all of these mean.
Here's a breakdown of what we'll cover so you can jump to different sections:
Spring Equinox:
The Spring Equinox is a cross-quarter festival; it falls directly between the Winter Solstice and the Summer Solstice. We will experience almost equal daylight and night, as it is the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator.
The Spring Equinox is a time for renewal, rebirth, and starting over. We
(in the Northern Hemisphere) head into longer days and shorter nights now; it is time for us to come out of hibernation, to begin putting into action what we are working to achieve, after a period of introspection and reflection.
You can honour the energies of the day by taking time to connect with nature, to give thanks for the return to light, and to take time to prepare for transformation and action.
If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, it is your Autumn Equinox, so time to return to the shorter days and longer nights, an opportunity to give thanks for what you have achieved and the manifestations that have come to fruition. It's a time to start harvesting the rewards and preparing for introspection.
Mercury Direct:
Mercury has been in retrograde since 26th February, and will go direct, which simply means it resumes the appearance of forward motion. Retrogrades are a period of introspection and reflection, and when planets go direct, it is a time to put into action what you have reflected upon.
In relation to Mercury, it is in the sign of Pisces, so there may have been heightened emotions and reactions, especially in relation to communication, technology, and transport. Now Mercury has turned direct, it's an opportunity to finalise decisions and bring projects to a close.
You may also have felt like you had a mental fog during this period (I know I have), which should now lift, enabling you to express your thoughts and communicate more easily.
As the retrograde ends, be mindful not to rush into things immediately; take a pause before making decisions, as we can be hasty in the new, free-flowing opportunities that arise.
The Sun in Aries:
This one will have the longest impact, as the sun moves from the mutable water energy of Pisces, into the cardinal fire sign of Aries. This is the first sign in the zodiac calendar, making it the start of a new year for anyone who follows this calendar. Aries is represented by the Ram, and is ruled by Mars.
Like the Ram, Aries is a sign of passion, decisiveness, and action. Fire energy is intense, action-oriented, and fast-paced, while Cardinal energy is initiating energy; it is about getting things in motion.
Aries is energetic, ambitious, courageous, impulsive, competitive, impatient, direct, and honest. We can all work with the energy and themes of Aries, but if this is your season, then it is time for upgrades.
Aries season has a strong link to motivation, lighting a fire in your belly, pushing you to get up and go, especially for things you are passionate about. It's time for new beginnings, taking calculated risks, and personal development.
Intentions for Aries Season:
If you are a water or earth sign, fire seasons can be a little tricky to navigate. Being open to the energies and working in harmony with them can help. Here are some intentions to help you align with the energies available:
Be Curious: Passion and curiosity lead to growth and transformation. Be open to new ideas, experiences, and trying new things. Be curious and see what opportunities arise.
Take Action: Fire seasons are not a time to sit back; they are a time for action and working with your inner passion and strength to make changes. Don't hold back; it's time to actively build your own destiny.
Stand In Your Power: Be your true self and share it with the world. Everyone deserves to see the true you. Stop hiding aspects of yourself, be confident and trust that when you show your true self, the right people and opportunities are drawn to you.
Rebirth: Who do you want to be? Who are you truly? We can be anything we want to be. This is your time to align with your true self and embody that person fully. You can wake up every day and be someone different if you want. Use this season to explore who you truly are, and be that person.
Dream Big: This isn't a time to hold back or be quiet. Don't be scared of the hows. Dream big, be ambitious, and work to achieve your goals and desires. It's not the time for passive action anymore.
Crystals for Support:
As always, I recommend you go with the crystals you are drawn to working with, but if you are looking for inspiration, then here are five to consider:
Fire Quartz:
We're in fire season after all, so enhance those energies with Fire Quartz. Boost passion, creativity, and support your inner strength. It's time to be authentically you, so work with Fire Quartz to help.
Labradorite:
Always a go-to for me in times of new beginnings and transformation. Support yourself, find your inner strength, and transform with the support of Labradorite.
Citrine:
A stone of luck, abundance, and success. Citrine supports you by what you are open to receiving. We can't manifest if we are not open to receiving what's coming and aren't ready to receive it. So open yourself up and trust that what happens will support you on your journey.
Pyrite:
A stone for abundance. A lot of people associate this specifically with money, but abundance just means a lot of something. This could be a lot of support, a lot of love, a lot of security, a lot of inner healing. Whatever it is you want to receive, Pyrite can aid this and support you in being open to it.
Carnelian:
A stone for passion, creativity, and igniting an inner fire. Support the energies of Aries season by stepping into your confidence, believing in yourself, and going after your dreams.
What does all this mean together?
On the 20th March, there is a significant shift in energies. While Aries season will carry these energies for the next few weeks, Mercury direct will continue with the change in energies also.
The Equinox is a time for preparation and gratitude, to give thanks for what came before, and prepare for what is to come. This, in combination with the Pisces New Moon the day previously, where we had the opportunity to release our intentions for the next lunar cycle, along with Aries season and us all getting a kick up the butt to make changes, is exactly what this is all about.
Decide what you want, what truly aligns with your soul, then openly communicate this and get to work achieving it. This is a very exciting time for transformation if we avoid distractions, stay focused, believe in ourselves, and take small, consistent steps to achieve.
